Each totem was engineered for durability and visual impact:
Framework: Internal structure made from mild steel CHS (Circular Hollow Section).
Cladding: Fabricated and curved aluminium panels, finished in RAL 9006 (White Aluminium).
Base Panel: Custom colour-matched to Pantone Sargasso Sea (Blue).
Logo Feature:
Precision flat-cut logo
Mounted with rear locators over backed-off acrylic
Halo illumination using internal LED lighting
Text Details: Applied using high-performance vinyl graphics.
Heights:
Hull Totem – 5 metres
Caistor Totem – 3 metres (identical design)
This project was a rebuild of signage first installed in 1998, now long removed. Despite minimal physical reference, we had a head start thanks to:
Archival Assets: Original visuals and CAD drawings were retrieved from our project archives.
Design Recreation: Rebuilt in CAD and CorelDRAW for precise replication.
Client Collaboration: Visuals were signed off smoothly before progressing to structural calculations.
Problem: Supplying mains power to the totem locations was cost-prohibitive and logistically complex.
Solution: We designed and integrated a solar-powered system, which the client welcomed.
Components:
PV solar panel
Battery storage
Lighting controller & solar regulator (Spectra system)
Design Integration: All components were discreetly housed within the totem structure.
Result: Clean aesthetics with self-sustaining, energy-efficient lighting—operating within the client’s specified time windows.
